SHAPE America Eastern District Elementary Physical Education
​Teacher of the Year 2017

Lynn Hefele is the SHAPE America Eastern District 2017 Elementary Teacher of the Year and NYS AHPERD 2015 Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.  Lynn teaches in the Huntington Union Free School District in Huntington, New York. She is the Vice President for elementary/middle school of the AHPERD Suffolk Zone.  A graduate of Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, Lynn holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and a Master of Science in Movement Science with a concentration in Biomechanics.  She lives in Greenlawn, New York with her husband, Steve, and sons, Harrison and TJ and their dog Buckets.

Lynn is the founder and president of Literature Enhanced Physical Education (LEPE, Inc.).  Since 2009, the company has published 9 teacher resources and 7 children's books.  Lynn is a member of the US Games Presenters Network, an OPENphysed trainer, manages the Elementary PE + discussion group on Linkedin and The Physically Educated Family of Facebook.   She produced the Physed Audio Blog and writes for PHE America.org.
