PE in the Classroom- Bingo!

Science Fair Day, one of many days throughout the year that the gym is used for an event that doesn't include teaching physical education.  I understand and agree with the majority of things that misplace us and try to make the best of a difficult situation.  I almost always don a pair of heels and dress like a classroom teacher!  It's a field trip for me- I get to see my students in a different environment and they get to see a different side of me.

Today I decided on Heart Healthy Bingo.  The template isn't perfect but it works.  I clip art different foods into the columns and print out cards to pull out of a hat.  I also print out exercise cards that can be done in the classroom like jogging in place, cross country skiing, etc.  Students pick a card out of a bucket.  If it is a food, I give them hints like, "This is an orange root vegetable."  If it is an exercise card, they stand behind their chair and perform the exercise for the desired time limit or skip count.  We play until someone has "Bingo!"

Every class finished with about 5 -10 minutes left in the 40 minute class.  We then watched and discussed this video from KidPresident.com.  My students loved it!  It is worth the 4 minutes!  Take a look.  My favorite line is....."Treat everyone like its their birthday, even if they don't deserve it."
