Meeting the NASPE and Common Core
Standards gets messy!

Clean Up Your Backyard is the first children's book designed specifically to enhance physical education and increase student motivation.  Teachers will love these easy-to-implement lesson plans introducing overhand throwing mechanics, movement vocabulary, and ways to improve eye/hand accuracy.  Administrators and parents alike will appreciate the integration of literature into PE classes to meet the Common Core Standards.  Most importantly, students will enjoy this whimsical story about two families making the most of a miserable chore by turning it into a fun-filled throwing game.

Clean Up Your Backyard
Grades K-3

How it works:
Step 1- Teacher reads a short fictional chapter to his/her students.
Step 2- Teacher introduces the skill and the activity.
Step 3- Children use their imagination to act out the game and practice the skills described in the story.

What’s included:
  1. A short story broken up into two chapters.
  2. Two easy to understand and implement lesson plans that equate to each chapter.
                 -Overhand throwing
                 -Throwing accuracy
   3.    Rubric for overhand throwing.

What are the results:
Intrinsically motivated children enthusiastically engaged in a highly physical activity refining their overhand throwing skills while becoming increasingly more accurate.

Lesson 1
Your students will have fun pretending to throw garbage into the neighbors yard while learning to throw overhand.

Lesson 2
Throwing food to the birds and garbage into the trees makes throwing with accuracy fun.

Lesson 3
Teach environmental responsibility by catching the garbage the correct way and recycling! Meet common core standards by keeping track of your recycling dollars!
